Let me tell you all about my second collection of handmade bags with illustrations and designs printed on fabric made by me.
This year I have missed things about my job. I wanted to be able to use a technique that would get my hands dirty and, for that reason I decided to go back to work printing techniques on fabric.
At the end of last January, I signed up for a 4-hour screen printing workshop. It was taught by a girl who has her own workshop here, in Ibiza. She is a true artist, and her hand-printed clothes are very beautiful. If you want to know more about her and you want her pieces, you can find her on Instagram @lessfilling.ibiza.
Even though I decided to join this workshop, screen printing was not a new technique for me, I knew it for a long time, but since I did not have a workshop in which to experiment and put my knowledge into practice, I had not had the opportunity to dedicate enough to it.
From what I learned in these classes, I was able to merge printing techniques with fashion, something that I have always liked and that I enjoyed working on. I then went on to create a series of 10 handmade artisan bags.
My second collection of handmade bags
Before creating this collection, I had already made a collection of similar bags, but I had not used the same technique. I had previously used sublimation. It is a technique that is performed through the thermal transfer of a design. The ink that is used has usually been printed on special paper and is then transferred to a fabric by applying heat to it.
This collection was unique, since each pattern was painted on paper by me and only one print could be made, because with heat the colour fades and it only allows you to make one unique piece.
I learned this technique in Poland in a fine arts academy where I studied for two weeks. Then I had the opportunity to perfect my skills in London. I took a course of a month and a half at the University of the Arts in London. Undoubtedly, they have been two unique experiences that have helped me expand my knowledge.
I made this first collection in 2016 and titled it “I was a serious woman”. I learned a lot from making this collection, particularly because it gave me the opportunity to apply the new knowledge that I had acquired.
My new series of handmade bags
The bags that I have designed are handbags made entirely by hand, designed so that you can always carry them on many occasions, during the day and at night. Well, when we are allowed to go out at night again! The truth is, that I miss seeing the streets of Ibiza as it was before, full of people and joy.
These handmade bags are made with polyester satin. This material is soft and has a double lining which provides a very pleasant and padded touch. The inner lining has a satin gingham print.
In the final stages, I have taken care to leave my own personal stamp on each of them and, inside, I have put the phrase “I was a serious woman” and also my name, Marta Fofi.
Currently I have 10 unique pieces made by hand and made by a seamstress from the island. Each piece has a beautiful tassel that I have made myself. I am very proud of this design, which presents 100% my style and my way of looking at life and its patterns.
The size of these bags is approximately 20×30 cm, the perfect size to carry your purse, keys, mobile and all those accessories that you want to take with you. This series has a single print in two versions, which I am going to present to you below.
Black and white: a classic
It is an abstract print in which I have used black spots on a white background. In these models I have used zippers of various colors. Specifically, blue, yellow, and magenta, the 3 primary colors.
This bag, being black and white in color, will go with any look that you have. It is a combination that never fails and will add a touch of elegance to your outfit.
So, if you want to have a unique piece of art and fashion that is committed to local consumption and sustainable production processes, this black and white bag is ideal for you. Or perhaps as a gift to a friend with a passion for art and fashion!
Fuchsia and green: the touch of colour for your look
This model has the same print as the previous model, but in fuchsia and green. A combination that mixes the color of nature with fuchsia, a warm and passionate color.
I recommend this model to the most daring of you, to those who like to wear accessories that add character to their style. If you want this bag to stand out, I recommend that you wear it with a plain garment in light colors (white, light blue, light grey) or dark (denim, black …), it will look great and the bag is sure to stand out.
This bag is ideal for when you are not sure what to wear or you think that you look too bland. It will add shine and color to your whole style. Without a doubt, more than one person will ask you about this handmade bag. (And I hope you recommend me!)
I love being able to share my new creations with you and that each day you can get to know me a little better. I encourage you to leave me a comment and tell me what you think about my new series of bags!
